FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer a trial?
Yes, you can book a trial here. You can try as many different dance styles as you like to decide which to continue with.
How do I book a place at the academy?
Yes, you can book a trial here. Once you’ve completed your trial, you’ll receive an email asking if you’d like to continue. Just reply “yes” and we’ll reserve the place for you and take care of the rest.
Can my child start straight away even if it's half way through a term?
Yes, you do not have to wait until the start of a term to join our classes. You may however find that some classes are full and have a waiting list and therefore will not be available to book a trial for. If you are interested in one of these classes, please email hello@beatfeetdance.co.uk to join the waiting list.
What should my child wear for their first class?
It’s best for your child to wear something comfortable that they can move in. T-shirt, leggings, pumps or trainers are great. Bare feet are best for ballet and Acrobatics.
Do we need to do anything before the first class?
You must have booked a trial class and received confirmation that your place is reserved on the date you wish to attend (this will be via email within a few minutes of your booking).
This will ensure that the class is not already full when you arrive. Please ensure that you have read the venue guide which has helpful photos of where to park and how to find your class (we use several different halls for classes).
If you are attending the Parent & Tots Bop class and would like to purchase a props bag (rather than bring your own items), please order this 48 hours prior to your class so we can have it ready for you.
Do we need to bring anything to the first class?
Please bring a drink for your child (no fizzy drinks please – water is best). We encourage children to bring their water bottle into the class at the start of their lesson.
If you are attending a Baby Boppers class, please bring a doll or teddy with you which will be taken into the class with your child at the start of the class.
If you are attending the Parent & Tots Bop class, please bring your props with you unless you have pre-ordered a props bag from Beat Feet. You can find a list of items to bring on the trial class booking page.
Do you have a waiting area for parents?
We do not have waiting areas at our venues. Parents and Guardians are welcome to watch our classes through the windows or wait in the large free car park.
Parents or Guardians participate in the Parent & Tots Bop class with their child. If this class is full, we may have to limit the number of adults per student to ensure an enjoyable experience for all.
Do I need to re-book place in a class each term?
No, your place in a class is reserved for you long term so there is no need to re-book each term. Your place will only be given to someone else if you instruct us to do so.
How do I pay for classes?
Classes are paid for via a monthly subscription using autopay via a debit or credit card.
Is uniform required?
Yes, all uniform is available from the Academy. When you have completed your trial, you will be sent a link to book a free uniform fitting appointment (you can also find a button for this on the contact page). We will ensure that all items fit perfectly before you take them away. Uniform is not required for your trial or the Parent & Tots Bop class.
Do you offer exams?
Yes, we hold an ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) exam session each year for pupils who are ready to take Ballet, Modern Theatre or Tap exams. We also offer every pupil the opportunity to take Medal Award assessments each year in every dance genre.
Do classes run during holidays?
No, our Academy follows the Derby City Council school terms and there are no classes during school holidays. We do however have holiday clubs and some exam practise sessions may be within the holidays.
Do you have shows?
Yes, each year we have a school show where pupils aged 2+ can perform on stage in front of an audience. There are also other performance opportunities throughout the year including our Choreography Competition, display days and local fetes etc. These opportunities are not compulsory but are very beneficial for the children.
What happens if we can no longer attend the class and need to give up the place?

EXCELLENT Based on 40 reviews Posted on Andreea MileaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We've been coming to the Parent and Tots Bop class for nearly a year now, and it's still one of my daughter's favourite things to do each week. The sessions are always fun and engaging and the teacher is fantastic. Can't recommend it enough!Posted on Natalie BallTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My daughter has been coming to BeatFeet for over a year now and absolutely loves it! She does ballet and modern theatre, and has recently started acrobatics, which is now her favourite class! She has so much fun in all the classes and her confidence has improved massively since she started. She gets to perform in shows and take part in exams and I’m loving watching her become a little dancer and acrobat! The teachers are all lovely and she’s made friends with her classmates. I hope she’ll stick at it for years to come, as she loves being a part of BeatFeet and always looks forward to her classes 💗Posted on Jon ReynoldsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My daughter has been with Beat Feet for the last couple of years and thoroughly enjoys her lessons. Miss Julie is a fantastic teacher, friendly and welcoming to all her pupils. My little one has learned a lot and we are very grateful!Posted on Rebecca GuestTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I've been attending Zumba in Chellaston with Beat Feet for over ten years, including via zoom in lockdown!! I look forward to it every week as after a busy day at work, no matter how tired I feel, I know Julie's class will transform my mood and I'll leave feeling energised, happier, and like a different person! Even my son and husband know this!! My fitness has improved, the rest of the class have become good friends and I love the mixture of dances that we do from Latin to Little Mix!! It no longer feels like an exercise class but a night out dancing. Definitely recommend joining Julie's class on a Tuesday night. There's such a range of ages and abilities and we all just enjoy ourselves regardless whether we are in step or not!! In fact that's half the fun!!Posted on R BakshiTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Amazing dance academy for children! My daughter loves her classes. The teachers are supportive and pay individual attention. Lots of options in dance styles for kids to choose and progress! Thank you Beatfeet and Ms Julie for giving my girl such a lovely platform to grow!Posted on Carpe NoctemTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Carpe Noctem were fortunate enough to work with Beat Feet Academy of Dance on their most recent Dance Show, providing technical support of Lighting, Sound and Video. Julie, and the Beat Feet company are extremely professional and all the dancers seemed to have lots of fun, covering lots of different styles and skills. The audience loved the shows! A pleasure to work with.Posted on Lally TuckleyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Beat Feet Dance Academy is an excellent school. My daughter attends ballet and loves every minute of it. The teachers are very skilled and put the children at their ease. It is so good to see them growing in their chosen style of dance. This was exhibited brilliantly at the end of year show earlier this month. The dancers worked so hard and it was clear they were enjoying showcasing their talents on stage in front of an audience. The show was so well organised and Miss Julie had everything running like clockwork. A true gem we shall look forward to seeing next year. Well done to everyone involved - you worked your socks off! :)Posted on Georgia BennettTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My daughter had her first ever dance show with Beatfeet Dance Academy. She loved it! Julie put so much time and effort into organising and you could see that from the audience. Thankyou for giving her the best experience. I can’t wait for many more in the future!
